Updated Lighting Infrastructure for Bernie Arbour Memorial Stadium

Due to restraints on the City of Hamilton's capital budget and the cost of approximately $800,000 required to replace the aging, end-of-life lighting infrastructure (lights and poles) at Bernie Arbour Memorial Stadium and with only $270,000 allocated in the capital budget, Councillor Tom Jackson bridged the financial gap of $530,000 from the Ward 6 Area Rating Special Capital Re-Investment Reserve Fund thereby ensuring this much needed and long overdue project would be completed in 2025.

At the May 7, 2025 Hamilton City Council meeting, Councillor Tom Jackson's motion for the replacement of lighting infrastructure at Bernie Arbour Memorial Stadium received unanimous support. A special shout-out and huge applause to new Hamilton Cardinals Baseball Club owner, Eric Spearin, for his amazing enthusiasm and commitment to turning the Cardinals' fortunes around with his incredible zeal, desire, and investment to increase turnouts at home games to approximately 2,000 fans per game last year. Accordingly, his efforts make game-day an enjoyable, positive experience for families and fans of all ages. Thank you, Eric!

Lastly, and I know I can speak for owner Spearin and myself, so much of the rejuvenation of Cardinals baseball in Hamilton is in memory of the late, great Larry Wood and his community and baseball legacy!
