🆕 Primary Reason for Secondary School's Longevity: Student Mobilization in 2012 and 2022
Councillor Jackson addresses the Sherwood Secondary School Graduating Class of 2026 along with their family and friends.
During his spoken remarks, Councillor Jackson reminded everyone of the power of collaboration, advocacy, and mobilization citing how the Sherwood Secondary School graduating classes of 2012 and 2022 respectively organized "Save Sherwood" campaigns which featured petitions with over 3000 signatures in response to having learned of an attempt to close Sherwood Secondary School.
"These two campaigns in 2012 and 2022 became two of the greatest grassroots campaigns I've ever seen and been involved with as they ultimately led to the newly renovated and expanded Sherwood Secondary School, includong a brand new sports field. I was thrilled to support both campaigns behind the scenes to ensure the school never closed", explained Councillor Jackson to the over 800 in attendance at the Hamilton Convention Centre.
